Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Monday inaugurated the Exclusive Special Court of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) at the Thoubal District Court Complex in Khangabok, aimed at expediting trials of scheduled offences and strengthening the stateโs justice delivery system.
The new court has been set up to ensure faster disposal of cases related to national security, terrorism, human trafficking, and other serious offences investigated by the NIA. Officials said the dedicated facility is expected to improve judicial efficiency and reduce case backlogs by enabling day-to-day hearings.
Speaking at the inauguration, the Chief Minister described the development as a significant step toward reinforcing the rule of law in the state. He noted that the initiative would help ensure quicker trial processes and strengthen public trust in the justice system.
Established under Section 11 of the NIA Act, 2008, Exclusive Special Courts are constituted by the Central Government to try offences investigated by the agency. These courts function with the powers of Sessions Courts and are mandated to conduct continuous hearings to ensure speedy adjudication.
The move also aligns with Supreme Court directions to fast-track pending cases under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), particularly in sensitive regions like Manipur where cases involving insurgency and violence are pending.
In a social media post, the Chief Minister reaffirmed the governmentโs commitment to delivering fair, transparent, and timely justice to all citizens.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Outer Manipur MP Alfred K. S. Arthur, Home Minister K. Govindas Singh, the Chief Justice of the High Court of Manipur, legislators, the Chief Secretary and senior officials from the judiciary and administration.
