Guwahati: The Assam Rifles deployed in Manipur has nabbed five cadres of proscribed extremist outfits in less than 48 hours from the strife-torn state’s Tengnoupal district bordering Myanmar.
Based on specific intelligence input regarding movement of militants along the Indo-Myanmar international border, troops of the paramilitary force on Thursday (September 12, 2024) launched an operation in Tengnoupal district’s border pillar (BP) number 86, the Assam Rifles said in a press statement on Saturday evening.

During the operation, an ambush party of the Assam Rifles noticed the movement of a group of people in a forested area of BP number 86. On being asked to stop, the individuals tried to flee from the spot, it added.
The team acted swiftly and after a hot chase nabbed all the three individuals. During questioning, it was revealed that they belonged to the extremist outfit People’s Liberation Army (PLA) of Manipur, it said.

The trio was handed over to the Pallel police on Friday for further legal proceedings.
On receipt of intelligence input, the Assam Rifles on Wednesday carried out a series of operations in Tengnoupal district’s Kwatha and H Mongjang areas, added.
The troops laid an ambush and in due course noticed an individual with suspicious movement along the international border. On seeing the Assam Rifles personnel, he tried to escape but was soon nabbed by the alert jawans, it said.
On being questioned, he admitted to being a member of the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK), it added.
Later in the day, the Assam Rifles launched yet another intelligence-based operation in the Point 422 area near Moreh along the international border, it said.
During extensive search, the jawans apprehended another cadre of PREPAK. During questioning, the militant revealed that he joined the outfit in April 2024, it added.
Both the militants were later handed over to the Manipur police for further investigation and legal proceedings, the statement further said.
