The Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup Metro district Virendra Mittal appealed to all for not to use plastic during this year’s Ambubachi Mela at Kamakhya Temple.

In a meeting held at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s office, Kamrup (M) Deputy Commissioner Virendra Mittal appealed the food and water suppliers from various voluntary organizations that will be engaged at camps to be erected to keep pilgrims not to use any kind of plastic items and make this mela as plastic free Ambubachi Mela.
Instead of using plastic plate, cup, spoon etc he appealed to use biodegradable ones.

Mittal appealed to maintain utmost health and hygiene of the cook to be employed for preparation of food for the pilgrims.
He also directed to maintain proper disposal mechanism for the leftover food items and to maintain cleanliness in each camp.
Mittal also emphasized to maintain discipline in the camp, so that the message can be spread all over India.
He also asked the ‘bhandaras’ to keep sufficient water in the camps and also for the public.
He also asked the ‘bhandaras’ to visit various camps by Sunday.
The Deputy Commissioner further appealed to all camps to work as a team to make this mela a grand success.
He also announced that a team will be constituted which will visit every camp and award will be given to the ‘bhandara’ who will maintain utmost cleanliness and discipline.
The Ambubachi Mela will be held from June 22 to June 25 next.
