In a major breakthrough police under the leadership of Sub Divisonal Police Officer (SDPO) Teliamura Tapas Deb seized 20 packets of cannabis which were brought for smuggling outside the state.
Acting on a tip off, the police was following a group of smugglers who were loading 20 packets of cannabis in a vehicle near Atharamura area in NH44.
However the smugglers coming to know about the presence of the police in the area absconded from the spot leaving the packets of cannabis on the road.
Later the police recovered a total of 365kg of Cannabis from the road but failed to arrest the smugglers.
Speaking to the media, police stated that the smugglers came to know about police following them which is why they ran away from the spot leaving the packets. Police is further investigating the case.
