The controversy over the letter of Bokajan MLA Dr. Numal Momin to the Governor of Assam seeking implementation of Regional Councils for all tribes and Village Councils in Karbi Anglong district refuses to die down.
In a press conference held at Karbi Hemtun, Dongkamukam, by Karbi Students’ Association (KSA-Bijoy Bey), came down heavily on Bokajan MLA Dr. Momin for his letter to the Governor demanding implementation of Regional Councils and Villager Councils in Karbi Anglong as per Article 244(2) of the Indian Constitution.
KSA (Bay) president of Hamren Regional Committee Probin Timung said that MLA Dr. Numal Momin should stop his activities, otherwise agitation would be launched by them.
It may be recalled that MLA Dr. Momin dispatched a letter to the Assam Governor on May 8, 2018 seeking implementation of Regional Councils for all tribes and creation of Village Councils in Karbi Anglong.
The letter came to public knowledge only this month after social organisations of Karbi Anglong strongly objected to it.
Previously, MLA Momin created a stir by questioning the moral right of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) on the Assam Accord and its view on Citizenship (Amendment Bill) 2016.
On May 30, AASU burned his effigy at Bokajan and then at Diphu in Karbi Anglong.
General secretary Babul Timung, assistant general secretary Pranjal Timung, Rilipson Engleng and others were present at the press conference.
