With the Model Code of Conduct and other instructions of the Election Commission becoming operative in the country as well as in Kokrajhar and Chirang election districts after the announcement of the dates of election, both districts are now gearing up for the ensuing Lok Sabha polls.

Deputy commissioner Kokrjhar Partha P Mazumdar, speaking to press conference at DC conference hall in Kokrajhar, said that in Gossaigaon, total 245 polling stations consisting of 182 voters including 93726 male and 88534 female voters, in Kokrajhar West, 243 polling stations consisting of 176291 voters  including 90530 male and 85761 female voters , in Kokrajhar East, 245 total polling stations consisting of 180547 voters including 89169 male and 91378 female voters  are preparing to conduct forthcoming Lok Sabha election in Kokrajhar constituency.

He said, “The polls for Kokrajhar Lok Sabha constituency will be held in the third phase (April 23) and we are well prepared to conduct the election.”

Deputy commissioner and district election officer Chirang Gautam Talukdar held a meeting with the district heads of the departments, representatives of political parties and media persons of the district.

In the meeting, he briefed on over all election preparedness in the district including various restrictions undermentioned in the Model Code of Conduct and expenditure related issues to be followed by the political parties.

During the discussion, he stressed on the need to adhere to the Model Code of Conduct and other instructions of the Election Commission of India by the political parties and government officials during electioneering process.

He informed that as of now there were 2,69,000 voters in 31- Sidli (ST)  LAC and for the smooth conduct of election, the entire LAC area has been divided into 9 zones and 26 sectors.

He further informed about the condition of polling station as two being critical and 28 being vulnerable including 17 locations as shadow area and their desire of arranging web casting in 15 polling stations in the district.

The meeting was also addressed by Chirang SP Sudhakar Singh.
