The poll bugle has been sounded with Chief Election Commissioner, Sunil Arora, declaring the dates for the forthcoming general elections in Delhi on Sunday. Not to be left behind, the district administration of Cachar and its election officials got down to the brass tacks of holding a fair and square polls for the prestigious Silchar Lok Sabha seat that goes for polls on 18th of April, this year.

In all 11,93,908 voters of Cachar district would cast their vote in 1461 polling stations to decide the fate of one coveted winner of Silchar Lok Sabha seat.

Disclosing the bare facts in a press meet today, Deputy Commissioner Cachar, Laya Madduri, said, “We have identified 20 polling stations which are very hyper-sensitive or critical but adequate forces would be there to conduct a peaceful election. The figures as such have been identified to be of such nature where during last assembly elections these polling stations recorded more than 90 percent votes going to one candidate or one party for which the election commission has issued a note to keep a close watch on these polling stations.”

DC Laya Madduri, also informed, “A mock drill of casting votes through EVM and newly introduced Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) which would be in place in all 1461 polling stations, has been done among 94,856 electorates across the length and breadth of this district and such mock drills would continue till the issuing of notifications dated 19th of March.”

She added, “To make elections voter friendly, apps like cVIGIL and Suvidha too has been launched which would allow anyone to lodge complaints and even upload videos for immediate action if some wrong doings are observed in the build up to these polls.”

A meeting with all political parties too was convened on Monday evening to notify them of the election’s code of conduct and what a party or a candidate can do and not do, till 18th of April, this year. The DC almost informed that the last day of filling up of nominations for Silchar Lok Sabha seat is set for 26th of March.
