A picture of a woman dressed in a black business suit accompanying Prime Minister Narendra Modi, US President Donald Trump and his wife Melania upon their arrival at Ahmedabad International Airport on Monday has been raising much curiosity on social media.

The lady accompanying them is an eminent language interpreter Gurdeep Kaur Chawla who has been working with top leaders in a number of international events for 27 years.

Chawla is working as an interpreter for the US President on his trip to India.

She had also worked as an interpreter for Modi during his international meetings in the US.

She had interpreted Modi’s first speech at the United Nations General Assembly and had also done translation work for the Indian Prime Minister at the Madison Square Garden event in 2014.

After working as an interpreter at the Madison Square Garden event, she then flew with Modi to Washington DC and interpreted the conversation between him and the then US President Barack Obama.

Chawla started her career as a language interpreter at the Indian Parliament in 1990.

She is often spotted at important events between the US/Canada and India.

Moroever, Chawla has also worked as an interpreter for the corporate sector in addition to the political sector.

With her vast knowledge in cross-border trade, understanding of cultural differences and other bureaucratic challenges, Chawla also advises companies small and large wanting to expand business from US to other parts of the world.
