Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday urged the Centre to revoke the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA).

“CAA is a bad law. The government should immediately dismiss the Act. The Centre should instead focus on generating employment opportunities,” Kejriwal added.

“There are approximately 3-4 crore non-Muslims residing in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan. Even if half of them comes to India, where are they going to be settled?” Kejriwal further asked.

“When there are so many problems and issues in the country, then why did the Centre had to bring such an Act which has been protested severely across the country,” he reiterated.

“Our students are beaten up by the police. The hostels are raided. They are the future of the country. The government should stop atrocities against the students,” Kejriwal added.

“Country’s law and order situation are deteriorating rapidly and there is fear among the people. The government should address these issues,” the CM said.

Quoting union home minister Amit Shah, Kejriwal said, “The other day I heard Amit Shah saying that the government will prepare documents for the non-Muslim people (illegal migrants) for granting them citizenship.”

“And then they are preparing for a nationwide NRC. Question is what will happen to those Indians who will not be able to produce proper documents?” he questioned.

“These people will be thrown out of the country. So, the government is ready to prepare documents for illegal migrants and grant them citizenship. This is hilarious,” Kejriwal said.

“In India, even today, around 70 per cent of poor people don’t have proper documents. How are they going to prove their citizenship then?” he further asked.

“The rich will prepare documents and they will get away. Only the poor will suffer,” he reiterated.

“Even during demonetisation, the government said the rich will have problems. But what we witnessed was just the opposite,” Kejriwal added.

Anti-CAA protests turned violent in Delhi and Section 144 of the CrPC has been imposed in the old Delhi area as a precautionary measure to control the situation.
