The rally that took to the streets marching from Khudiram Bose’s statue of this town, culminated at Deshabandhu Chittaranjan Das’ statue near National Highway point with wives and dear ones of the employees of Cachar paper mill leading the pack.

The message to make this Barak bandh call successful on November 22 from dawn to dusk was made loud and clear by various organizations that has framed up this revival committee, just two months back.

“I appeal to all the residents of Barak valley to whole heartedly support bandh call on November 22 for we want to make Prime Minister Narendra Modi, see that we don’t like people lying so blatantly. I appeal everyone to shut down all establishments and make this bandh a success for the message should reach the Chief Minister of Assam and Prime Minister of this country,” Manabendra Chakraborty, chief convener of HPC paper mill revival action committee said.

Taking potshot at Prime Minister Narendra Modi who on his last visit to Silchar during Assam’s assembly elections, promised of reviving both Cachar and Nowgaon paper mill, which never saw the light of the day, Manabendra Chakraborty said, “If PM Modi can give NEPA in Madhya Pradesh a sum of Rs 469 crore just a month back to revive its paper mill and hand over all paper businesses of India to one person or one organization, is not acceptable to us, rather not ‘acche din’ for us. More than 39 employees and family members of Cachar paper mill have passed in the past two years and we shall avenge all of these by going ahead with this bandh call.”

Manabendra Chakraborty added, “Many are spreading a false message that the bandh call has been lifted, but don’t go by it, for we are being supported by all sections of society, irrespective of caste, creed, religion and even political affiliations to make this Barak bandh a grand success.”

“We want to make this point very clear to CM Sarbananda Sonowal and PM Narendra Modi, that if both of them don’t fulfill their promises in the days to come then people of Barak valley too would shut their doors once and for all for each of them” remarked, Chakraborty.
