The salary and allowances of MLAs and ministers of Tripura may increase shortly.

Rebati Mohan Das, the Speaker of Tripura Assembly informed that the proposal to increase the salary and allowances of ministers and MLAs will be introduced during the next Assembly session.

The Speaker also informed that the Assembly session will start from August 30 and will continue till September 2 next.

The House will seat for three days, Das added.

Last time in 2016 the then Left Front government increased the salary and allowances of ministers and MLAs by 15 per cent.

Rebati Mohan Das said that three bills will be introduced during the session.

One is to increase the salary and allowances for the ministers and MLAs and second is Essential Services Maintenance Bill 2019, which is known as ESMA.

And third is Tripura Pensioners’ Amendment Bill.

In the meanwhile, the State Cabinet has approved the proposal for introducing Essential Services Maintenance Bill 2019 in the upcoming monsoon session of Tripura.

Law Minister Ratan Lal Nath said that it is mainly to act as a deterrent to ensure there is no disruption of essential services includes public transport, health services, water and power supply, sale of the essential commodity.

It is also notable that the IPFT, the partner of the coalition the government in Tripura demanded separate setting arrangement for them in Assembly.

Sources said, from this Assembly session the IPFT MLAs and ministers may seat separate from the BJP MLAs.
