While more than 45 lakh people are affected by floods in Assam, the skymetweather.com has predicted spells of heavy rainfall during the next 24 hours over Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland.

The Assam government issued a red alert as Assamโ€™s flood situation turned extremely critical; more than 5,000 villages across 30 districts were affected.

The skymetweather.com has reported that there has been beginning of a โ€œCyclonic Circulationโ€ over Central Pakistan and Punjab, and a โ€œTroughโ€ is extending from the โ€œCirculationโ€ to Northeast India.

With the east-west โ€œTroughโ€, light to moderate rains with one or two heavy spells will be seen over Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, and Nagaland, the skymetweather.com reported.

Though the Indian Metrological Department (IMD) did not forecast rains on Wednesday in the northeast, it has issued alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura and Odisha on Thursday.

On Friday, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, the IMD forecast said.

Even on Saturday, the IMD has forecast for heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places very likely over Assam and Meghalaya.
