The first convention of North East Union of Working Journalists (NEUWJ) will be organized on March 25 next at the Guwahati Press Club.

This was stated in a press release issued by NEUWI on Friday.

Eminent journalist and editor of ‘Prantik’, the prestigious magazine of Assam, Pradip Barua will inaugurate the convention.

Shashi Phukan, editor of ‘Bismoi’, another polular magazine over the last many decades in Assam, will release the souvenir and senior journalist Samudra Gupta Kashyap will be present as a special guest.

The open session will be presided over by NEUWJ president Joykanta Sarma, which will be graced by a number of acclaimed journalists from the entire north-eastern region of the likes David Laitphlang from Meghalaya, Bijoy Gurung of Sikkim, Sobhapati Samom of Manipur, Pirrip Sumi of Nagaland, Kenter Joya Riba from Arunachal Pradesh, Syed Sajjad Ali from Tripura, and Malsawmpuia Ralte from Mizoram.

Manoj Agasti, general secretary of NEUWJ, which is registered under the trade union act, through the release has extended invitations to all journalists and media organizations of the region to make the convention a success.
