The Election Commission (EC) has said that the eight northeastern states of India that went for polling (2019 Lok Sabha polls) in the first phase on Thursday recorded a good number of voters’ turnout.
The EC said that maximum voters’ turnout was in Tripura at 81.8 per cent. Assam recorded 68 per cent turnout. Manipur – 78.2 per cent, Sikkim – 69 per cent, Mizoram – 60 per cent, Nagaland – 78 per cent, Meghalaya – 67.16 per cent, and Arunachal Pradesh – 58 per cent.
“Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Nagaland, Manipur and Mizoram have single-phase polling. Election in these states is over today,” said EC officials.
In Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh, Lok Sabha and Assembly polls are being held simultaneously. The EC officials said that 15 cases of EVM damage have been reported from Manipur, Bihar, West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh.
