Budget carriers–Go Air, IndiGo and Alliance Air–will start flight services on different routes connecting Aizawl from September next.

Principal consultant for civil aviation, wing commander, Joe Lalhmingliana said that GoAir proposed to operate Airbus-320 daily service on Kolkata-Guwahati-Aizawl route from September 23.

He said two other airlines–Indigo and Alliance Air–are applying clearance from director general of civil aviation (DGCA) for operating flights connecting Aizawl.

“Once the two airlines obtained clearance from DGCA they will officially intimate to the Mizoram government about their schedules, timings and sectors,” he said.

Sources said the two airlines have planned to start flight operation from October.

The Indigo has proposed to operate Airbus-320 and Alliance Air will operate ATR 72, which can accommodate 74 passengers.

Air India is the only airline which is now running a flight service from Lengpui Airport here to Kolkata.

Following the withdrawal of service by Jet Airways in February, the air passengers from Mizoram have faced inconveniences while travelling to other parts of the country.

Mizoram chief minister Zoramthanga in June had said that the state government asked IndiGo airlines to start flight services on the Aizawl-Delhi and Aizawl-Guwahati sectors.
