A 26-year-old youth in Tezpur was allegedly burnt alive by her girlfriend on Friday evening. The incident has triggered sensation in the area.

According to the police, the accused girl along with a boy set the youth identified as Amar Nath Sharma on fire by pouring kerosene on his body when he stormed to the girl’s residence at LB Road here in Sonitpur district.

The boy, who hails from Chandmari Lalmati area here, suffered 50 per cent burns and was immediately shifted to Kanaklata Civil Hospital in a critical condition.

Police rescued him and rushed to the hospital after locals had informed cops about the incident, said a local resident.

Sources said Amar stormed to his girlfriend’s house after he got to know that she has developed a new relationship with a boy. Before going to her house, he had made a comment on Facebook addressing the accused girl.

According to locals Amar and the girl were in a relationship for several years and recently she started to avoid him.

A case has been registered against the accused under Section 307 (attempt to murder) the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Further investigation regarding the matter is still underway.
