Gauhati Town Club (GTC), one of the oldest and a premier sports club of Assam has achieved a 2-star rating Accreditation from the All India Football Federation (AIFF) for their soccer academy, becoming the only one from Assam to achieve this feat.
GTC secretary Devojit Saikia said “Two stars Football Academy gets the chance to play in 3- an age group I League tournament which are U-13, U-16 and U-18”.
The GTC Football Academy has been able to produce many successful footballers from Northeast India and is a prestigious and renowned academy of Northeast that is fully equipped with high quality infrastructure.
The academy was set up to identify, nurture and train the potential footballers of the Northeast region.
The GTC was founded in 1906 at the initiative of a dedicated group of sports-lovers in the person of Capt. L.B.Scott, I.M.S. who was a Civil Surgeon, Dr. H.K. Das, an Assistant Surgeon and founder Secretary of the club; Sir Saiyid Saadullah, an eminent lawyer and Khan Saheb Khalilur Rahman.
The sports club is located adjacent to the Judges’ Field in Guwahati and its president is Himanta Biswa Sarma, the finance minister of Assam.
