Gauhati High Court

Accepting a writ petition filed by the Leader of the Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly Debabrata Saikia for arbitrary administrative control of 11 villages of Dhopabar Mouza by the Charaideo district instead of Nazira Sub Division, the Gauhati High Court has issued a notice to Assam government.

Saikia who is also Member of Assam Legislative Assembly from Nazira Constituency had approached the Gauhati High Court for arbitrary and illegal administrative control of 11 villages of Dhopabar Mouza by the Charaideo District instead of Nazira Sub Division.

A bench of Justice A K Goswami on Monday issued notice to the Assam Government for arbitrary inclusion of the two Gaon Panchayats–Sukafa and Lengibor Gaon Panchayat comprising 11 villages of Dhopabar Mouza.

Saikia’s counsel Syed Burhanur Rahman contends that Notification number GAG (B) 26/91/57 dated 17.06.92 the Sub Division of Nazira was reconstituted and the entire Dhopabar Mouza was made the part of the Nazira Revenue circle.

Despite the said notification which is still in currency, the Government has wrongly left the administrative control of that area to the Charaideo district.

Recently the panchayat election of those area are also notified and to be held under the supervision of the Deputy Commissioner, Charaideo.

This administrative anomaly has created great inconvenience to the people at large, for which  Saikia had to approach the High Court to rectify and bring those areas under the administrative control of the Sub Division of Nazira in terms of Notification no. GAG (B) 26/91/57 dated 17.06.92.
