Former governor of Nagaland and Manipur and ex-CBI director Ashwani Kumar was found hanging at his residence in Shimla on Wednesday.
He was 69.
According to media reports, Kumar had been depressed for several weeks.
The former CBI director was in-charge during the Arushi Talwar murder case.
He served as the governor of Nagaland between 2013 and 2014 and in the same period, he also served as the governor of Manipur.
A team of police officers has reportedly rushed to Kumar’s residence.
Kumar was a retired IPS officer from the Himachal Pradesh cadre.
He served as the director general of police (DGP) for Himachal Pradesh between 2006 and 2008 prior to his appointment as the CBI for two years.
