The Election Commission (EC) on Monday reported its first COVID-19 case after an assistant section officer in the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) division tested positive for coronavirus.

After the case was reported, the official’s room on the second floor has been sealed for sanitisation.

The rest of the office, however, will continue to function normally.

“As per norms laid by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the office will be sanitised and those who came into contact with the person will be home quarantined and tested,” quoting an EC official, Hindustan Times reported.

It may be mentioned here that EC officials have been going to the office even during the lockdown.

Sources informed that most officials went to the office for two to three days a week.
