Assam police on Thursday filed an FIR against 10 people due to a complaint about a poem reflecting the hardships and emotions of people who have faced citizenship issues in the State.

As per reports, the complaint was lodged by a person named Pranabjit Doloi at Panbazar police station in Guwahati.

Doloi claimed that the poem written in ‘Miya dialect’ portrays the Assamese society as a racist one and demeans the indigenous people of the State to a great extent.

He also claimed that the aim of the poem is to spread hatred about the Assamese people at a global level and the poetry is simply a threat to the people and security of the state.

The ten people against whom the FIR had been filed are mostly Bengali Muslim poets and activists who write in ‘Miya dialect’.

The accused persons have been identified as Hafiz Ahmed, Sultana, Abdur Rahim, Ashraful Hussain, Abdul Kalam Azad, Selim M. Hussain, Karishma Hazarika, Barnamalika Choudhury and Farhad Bhuyan.

The people had been booked under sections 406 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

However, the police have not arrested any of these persons till now.
