The Goalpara district police on Saturday night rescued a girl from a forest at Rangacharan near Sri Surya Pahar under Mornoi police station in Goalpara.

The girl eloped with her religious minority boyfriend, who introduced himself as a boy of the girl’s community.

According to police sources, Mehbub Alom, 29, son of Mazibor Rahman of Tengabari of East Goalpara, had grown a love affair with a 29-year– old girl from Maligaon of Guwahati city, who belongs to a majority community.

During their introduction, Mehbub introduced himself as Pranjal Bora of Goalpara district to which the girl easily believed and continued their relationship for the last one year.

On Thursday at about 11:30 am, the fraud, Mehbub Alom, took her along with him and brought to Goalpara to marry her.

The family of the girl immediately lodged an FIR with the Jalukbari police station, Maligaon in Guwahati which in return alerted their Goalpara counterpart.

On Saturday night, Dipu Borah, officer-in-charge of Mornoi police station in Goalpara, following a secret tip-off, rescued the girl from the forest of Rangacharan near Sri Surya Pahar.

Early on Sunday morning, the police also succeeded to apprehend the accused, Mehbub Alom from Lalabori village under the same police station.

Later, both of them were handed over to Jalukbari police.
