The Directorate of Fisheries has ordered an investigation into the incident of a fisherman selling a huge 28 kg ‘Barali’ fish in Guwahati on Thursday.

The directorate has asked the District Fishery Development Officer to launch an enquiry into the incident.

The fisherman who sold the 28 kg fish has been found to be violating the rules as given in the Assam Fisheries Act 1953 (amended 2005).

The huge fish which was being sold in the Ulubari market in the morning had caught the attention of shoppers and onlookers and a ruckus was created.

As per reports, the fisherman named Shyamal had caught the fish in the Brahmaputra river and had brought it to the Ulubari market to sell it.

After cutting the fish, Shyamal had sold it to customers at Rs 1200 per kilogram.

The directorate has also asked the District Fishery Development Officer to give a detailed report on the action taken against the fisherman after 24 hours.

The officer was also asked to visit fish markets in the city daily and later report his findings to the concerned authorities.
