“I have no idea about this,” said Commissioner & Secretary, General Administration Department (GAD), Dr. M Angamuthu while replying to a query by Northeast Now.

It may be mentioned that Assam recently had the final updated National Register of Citizens (NRC) published on August 31 with inclusion of over 3.11 crore people.

The final NRC excluded names of over 1.9 million people.

The Assam government recently stated that the excluded 1.9 million people would neither be detained nor be declared as foreigners.

These people have to approach the Foreigners’ Tribunals (FTs) in Assam to make fresh claims for Indian citizenship within 120 days and can subsequently move higher courts if not satisfied with the ruling of the FTs.
