Imphal: A brief scuffle broke out between market vendor women protesters and Manipur police during a protest march on Monday in the northern part of the Raj Bhavan, Imphal.
The clash occurred when the women protesters tried to break the police-controlled areas near the Johnstone higher secondary school, the northern side of the Raj Bhavan, Imphal at around 11:30 am on Monday.
Several women protesters launched the agitation against the threat to the integrity of Manipur.
Ima Mema, the leader of the Ima Markets of Imphal city stated that not an inch of land should be given to the Kukis, no separate administration should be given, and no case should be filed against the Meitei village volunteers.
These slogans must be raised by the newly elected members of parliament from Manipur in the ongoing parliament session.
Protesters held placards with slogans like “Leaders cannot remain silent”, “Stop blaming our sons by forcing them to hold weapons”, “Unite CSOs at the earliest”, “Let us fight for ourselves if the Government of India can’t protect us”, “Stop protecting Kukis”, etc.
Earlier, the rally started from the historic Ima Market and returned to the same place after a brief scuffle with the police.
There was no major casualty in the clashes.
During the protest rally, all shops and businesses established in Imphal city remained closed, sources said.
