Certain important issues relating to the development of Dibrugarh in particular and Upper Assam in general were discussed during a meeting between Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and the president of Policy Group for Peoples’ Rights (PGPR), Dibrugarh, Dr Aradhana Kataki on Tuesday.

The meeting was held in the chamber of the Deputy Commissioner, Dibrugarh on Tuesday.

Action needed for the improvement of healthcare facilities, necessity of strict policy of freezing of road levels as one of the urgent steps for the prevention of water-logging, the need of protecting the almost depleted green belt of Dibrugarh as well as the natural heritage of the town which includes the tea garden area on either side of Convoy Road and conservation of built heritage sites in and around Dibrugarh were discussed during the meeting.

During the meeting, implementation of the long-delayed promise of installing CCTV cameras at public places as a measure to enhance security of citizens, suspension of permission to build more high rise buildings in the town until adequate drainage system is put in place in Dibrugarh were also some other main issues discussed.

Eminent literary figure and leading thinker of Assam, Dr Nagen Saikia, who was present in the meeting, endorsed the suggestions made by PGPR. Also present in the meeting were the MLA of Lahoal Rituparna Baruah, Deputy Commissioner of Dibrugarh Laya Madduri, Superintendent of Police Dibrugarh Gautam Borah  and several other members of the district administration were present.
