Assam Minister for Irrigation and Handloom & Textiles Ranjit Dutta on Saturday said that if Assam has to be developed in the industry sector, there is the need to set up industries not only in Guwahati but also in other places where raw materials and other required conditions are already available.

Minister Dutta said this during his visit to Kokrajhar on Saturday where he took part in a seminar held in the conference hall of the BTC Secretariat on the topic ‘Assam Summit for Global Investors’.

In his speech, Minister Dutta spoke about the Global Investors’ Summit in Assam to be held on February 3 & 4 in Guwahati and the importance of it for development of the economy of the State. Dutta said, “The BTC region has tremendous scopes for development of industries as the region has available raw materials and manpower for development in agriculture, forest, tourism sectors as well as hydro-power, food reprocessing, floriculture, etc.”

Dutta also urged the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) authority to participate in the Summit.

In the meeting, BTC Principal Secretary Biren Chandra Phukan welcomed the guests present and FINER president Pabitra Buragohain explained the purpose of the programme.

Attending the programme, BTC Deputy Chief Kampa Borgayari said about the Industrial Policy of the Council and the initiatives being under taken by the Council for development of the industrial sector in the area.

Borgoyari also spoke on the investors’ opportunity for setting up agro-based industries like automatic rice husking, mustard oil mill, food processing industry, power loom industry, forest-based industries, stone crusher, bamboo-based industries, rubber-based industries, etc. in the Bodoland Territorial Areas District (BTAD) area.

Stressing on importance of participating in the Global Investors’ Summit in Assam, the BTC Deputy Chief requested the Industry Department’s officials to prepare projects focusing on areas like agriculture, handloom and textiles, tourism etc. in consultation with FINER officials and to get BTC’s name registered immediately for participation in the Summit.

There was also a power-point presentation at the programme. The seminar was attended by BTC EMs, BTC and FINER officials.
