Fire engulfed a car workshop near a petrol pump of the Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) located at Sarkari Bagan in Haflong at Friday night.
It has been estimated that property worth Rs 15 lakh to Rs 18 lakh were damaged in the devastating fire.

It is yet to be ascertained from where the fire originated.
However, the NRL petrol pump escaped from the fire.
According to the owner of the car workshop, Haru Acharya, after closing the workshop he left for him home located just beside the workshop. After some times, he heard of people shouting ‘fire fire’.

“Coming out of my home, I saw that fire caught one of the cars in our workshop. We tried to douse the fire by pouring water but in vain. So, we immediately informed it to the Fire Service department. Though it was already late, the fire fighters brought the fire under control,” said Acharya.
A total of seven vehicles were burnt to ashes in the fire. The vehicles which were torched include Wagon R, Gypsy, Maruti 800 and motorbikes.
The police have started investigation into the incident. However, they have failed to find out the cause of the fire.
