Taking Union Territory Ladakh as an example, Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) CEM Tuliram Ronghang on Monday urged the Centre to create Karbi Anglong Autonomous state within Assam.

KAAC Chief Executive Member (CEM) Ronghang handed over a memorandum to Union Home Minister Amit Shah in this regard.

“We want that Government of India will definitely implement Article 244 (A),” said Ronghang.

“Getting an autonomous state is our right. We have been demanding this for the last three decades,” said Ronghang while addressing the foundation laying ceremony of Karbi Bhawan and Dimasa Bhawan in New Delhi on Monday.

“Hope our government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah will fulfill our expectations,” Ronghang added.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who laid the foundation stone of Karbi and Dimasa Bhawans in New Delhi, was present in the programme.

Lauding Centre’s decision of creating Ladakh as an autonomous state, Ronghan said, “We want the same attention from the Centre.”

Echoing the view, Autonomous District MP Haren Singh Bey said the provision for creation of an autonomous state is there in the Constitution of the country.

“Under Article 244 (A) of the Constitution, the government can create an autonomous state,” said Bey.
