COVID vaccine for children aged 3 years and above will be launched within the next six months.

This was informed by chief executive officer (CEO) of Serum Institute of India (SII) – Adar Poonawala.

“Vaccine for children aged 3 years and above will be launched in the next 6 months,” SII CEO Adar Poonawalla said at CII Partnership Summit.

He added: “It is under trial and has shown excellent data all the way down to the age group of 3.”

Recently, an expert panel of Central Drug Authority reviewed SII’s application seeking emergency authorisation of COVID-19 vaccine Covovax.

It sought additional data from SII while noting the jab has not yet been approved in the country of origin.

The Novavax shot, which the world’s largest producer of vaccines calls Covovax, has shown good results in trials in children aged three and older, Poonawala claimed.
