He had also urge Indian citizens to stand at the doors and in the balconies of their houses at 5 pm on Sunday and express gratitude by clapping hands or ringing bells for five minutes to salute the efforts of those providing selfless service to the nation during these testing times.

Although, janata curfew was observed in full obedience during the day, many people created a ruckus in the streets in the evening by beating plates and bursting crackers.

Many states of the country have now imposed a lockdown in an attempt to control the spread of coronavirus.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday lamented that people are not taking the lockdown in the country seriously.

In a tweet, Modi appealed to the people to save their family members and themselves by strictly adhering to the directions being given by the state and central governments.

He requested the state governments to make people adhere to the lockdown.
