Popular Indian mythological 80’s television serial Ramayana will be broadcast on DD National channel from Saturday onwards.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar on Friday announced that the famous television serial will again be shown on television due to public demand.

Two episodes of Ramayana will be broadcast – one in the morning from 9 am to 10 am and another in evening from 9 pm to 10 pm.

Netizens had been requesting for the re-telecast of Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayana and B R Chopra’s Mahabharata claiming that these old television serials will be a good source of entertainment for people during the 21-day lockdown period of the entire nation which had been imposed in an effort to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Javadekar tweeted, “Happy to announce that on public demand, we are starting retelecast of ‘Ramayana’ from tomorrow, Saturday March 28 in DD National, One episode in morning 9 am to 10 am, another in the evening 9 pm to 10 pm.”

Prasar Bharati CEO ShashiShekhar also thanked the DD National channel team for working hard to fulfill the demand of their viewers.

He tweeted, “A dedicated team of DD officers worked through the day yesterday and through the night to make this happen even as they stayed away from home and their families. Kudos to the entire team who worked on a war footing in response to immense demand from the viewers to watch the epic.”

The television series Ramayana, which originally aired during 1987-1988, starred Arun Govil as Ram, Deepika as Sita and Sunil Lahiri as Lakshman.
