Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday filed his nomination papers as candidate of the National People’s Party (NPP) for the by-election to South Tura constituency, slated forAugust 23.
Conrad, who is still the Lok Sabha MP from Tura Parliamentary seat, has to get elected as MLA to continue as Chief Minister.
Sources, said that the chief minister submitted at least three sets of nomination papers to Sabrella Marak, who is the returning officer for the by-election to South Tura constituency.
The chief minister was accompanied by supporters and NPP leaders on his way to file his nominations.
After filing of nominations, the chief minister drove to NPP Tura office and addressed party leaders and functionaries there.
Polling for the by-elections to South Tura and Ranikor Assembly constituency will be held onAugust 23, and counting of votes will be held onAugust 27.
Sources informed that no candidate has filed the nominations for the by-election to Ranikor constituency.
Former Congress MLA, Martin M. Danggo is the NPP candidate from Ranikor in this by-poll.
The UDP is fielding Pius Marweiñ from Ranikor. However the opposition Congress is yet to name its candidates from both South Tura and Ranikor seats.
