Assam police have arrested the kingpin of an inter-state cattle smuggling racket from the Gopalganj area in Bihar.
The arrested smuggler has been identified as Sarfaraj and he was allegedly involved in cattle smuggling from northern states to Bangladesh through the international border in Assam.]

“The hardcore cattle smuggler was nabbed in a joint operation launched by the crime branch of Assam police along with its Bihar counterpart,” said a police official.
Guwahati police commissioner Deepak Kumar said that based on the revelations made by some already arrested smugglers, an operation was launched in search of Sarfaraj and he was nabbed from Bihar’s Gopalganj area.
He said that operation is on against cattle smugglers in the state and several persons have been arrested from various places.

On June 12, at least 16 cattle smugglers were nabbed in multiple raids launched in Guwahati, Dhubri and South Salmara districts of the state bordering Bangladesh.
Some of the arrested persons were found to be possessing iron fence cutting tools too.
According to police, they use these tools to cut barbwires to push cattle to the other side.
