Guwahati commissioner of police Deepak Kumar has been promoted to the rank of additional director general of police (ADGP), Special Branch, Assam.
Kumar has been promoted to this prestigious post in the level 15 of the pay matrix with effect from January 1, 2019.
“However, he will continue to function as commissioner of police, Guwahati,” stated a notification, issued on May 28, 2019 by Ahutosh Agnihotri, commissioner & secretary to home & political department, Assam.
He has been substantially posted as the additional director general of police, Special Branch, Assam for the “purpose of drawal of pay and allowances only against the vacant cadre post with effect from the date of taking charge”, said the notification.
Apart from Kumar, IPS officer Harmeet Singh, additional DGP (Admin/Security/M& L), Assam, has been posted as the additional DGP (V&AC), Assam.
He has been substantially posted as “additional director general of police (V&AC), Assam for the purpose of drawal of pay and allowances only against the vacant cadre post, with effect from the date of taking over charge,” stated the same notification.
“However, he will continue to function as additional director general of police (Admin, Security and M&L), Assam,” the notification added.
Kumar has been serving as the commissioner of police of Guwahati since December last year.
He took charge from Pradip Saloi, who retired on superannuation on the last day of the last year.
Prior to his appointment as the city police commissioner, Kumar, an IPS officer of 1994 batch, served as the IGP (Law & Order) at the Assam Police Headquarters in the city.
Kumar, who is the fifth police commissioner of Guwahati, had also been on deputation as Inspector General of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and was released after he completed a 47-week course at the National Defence College in 2017.
