At the initiative of the 166 Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF), a drug peddler was apprehended on Sunday morning in Tripura along with a huge consignment of ganja.

The apprehended drug peddler has been identified as Hellal Miah, who is a resident of Yakub Nagar under Dharmanagar Sub-division in Tripura.

It is to be mentioned here that during regular checking, the BSF jawans of 166 Battalion of BSF apprehended Hellal Miah along with 32 kg 800 gm of dry cannabis which were kept in total four sealed packets.

However, even after chasing, the BSF jawans couldn’t detain the two other companions of Hellal Miah, BSF sources said.

BSF sources said, the BSF jawans on duty identified the escapees but couldn’t nab them.

The two other companions of Hellal Miah have been identified as Inam Uddin and Kadir Miah.

The trio has been involved in several anti-social activities for the past many days and finally one of them was nabbed.

The apprehended drug peddler along with the cannabis were handed over by the BSF jawans of 166 Battalion of BSF to Dharmanagar Police Station.

Further investigation is underway, sources said.

The BSF from time to time apprehend drug peddlers and also seize cannabis along the Indo-Bangladesh border.

A joint operation by the 48 Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) along with the Khowai Police (Tripura) led to a major drug haul in the second week of September this year.

During the operation, marijuana (ganja) worth Rs 5 lakh was recovered from two vehicles from the bordering Shingichara area. The joint operation was carried out based on a secret tip-off.
