Agartala: The Government Railway Police (GRP) late Monday night recovered a body hanging from the fan of a compartment on the Sealdah-Sabroom Kanchanjunga Express after the train arrived at its final destination Sabroom in South district of Tripura.

A police source said the railway cleaning staff informed the Sabroom police immediately upon discovering the body hanging from the fan in the train that arrived from Kolkata.

“GRP handed over the body to the Sabroom police. After completing the legal formalities, the body was sent to the hospital for a post-mortem examination. A mobile phone, some cash, ID card, Aadhaar and PAN cards were recovered from the body,” the source added.

Police said the deceased was identified as Arun Debnath (48), a resident of Dharmanagar in North district of Tripura.

“A train ticket from Sealdah to Dharmanagar was recovered from the pocket of the clothes the deceased was wearing. During preliminary investigation, it was found that Debnath used to live in Bengaluru,” police said.

“After speaking to his family, it was learnt that Debnath was returning home after six months with all the money he earned during the period. The body was handed over to his family on Tuesday evening,” police added.
