Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has won all five Zilla Parishad Seats in Margherita Subdivision of Tinsukia District making the rival Congress bite the dust.

The winning BJP candidates are:  Dibakar Thakur of  No. 10 Bargolai, Nivajyoti Phukon of No. 11 Margherita, Hiranya Devi Baruah of No 8. Golai, Buddha Prakash Upadhaya of No 9. Jagun and  Bhanu Sonowal of No. 12 Buridehing.

Overall the BJP candidates prevailed over the candidates from rival Congress and AGP and Independent in most of the panchayat portfolios excepting a few. Of the total 1, 90, 711 voters 67.48 percent had turned out in 5 ZPC, 22 gaon panchayats, for five ZP Members, 22 Anchalik Parishad Member, 22 GP President and 220 Ward members. Dominating the rivals after having lion’s share in all 5 ZP Members, the BJP further secured 18 AP members seats while Congress won just 4 seats. Again 18 GP Presidents were voted in favour of the BJP while the electorates voted for just four Congress candidates.

Similarly, out of 220 Ward Members in the subdivision, 156 seats were swept by the BJP while the  rival congress won  just 62 seats while the rest two were won by the independents.

The Congress secured victory at six wards in Dwarmara GP leaving four wards for the saffron. Six wards in Brahmajan GP went to the BJP folds while four were secured by the Congress. Similarly, six wards were conquered by the BJP in Lekhapani GP also. Congress was out performed by the saffron party in Jagun GP too where Congress won only one seat  out of  the ten.

Meanwhile, election was held in 11 Panchayats for three ZP seats Golai, Borbil and Samdung, 11 AP members seats, 11 GP Presidents and 110 ward members in Digboi Assembly Constituency where the BJP prevailed over most of the GPs including Golai GP which was  stormed by the BJP securing 8 seats leaving just two for the congress.
