The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday claimed to have struck the final deal with Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) for the ensuing Assembly elections scheduled for February 18.
This was confirmed by BJP state prabhari Sunil Deodhar on Monday. Deodhar, however, did not specify details on the seat sharing formula.

Deodhar, while interacting with media in Agartala on Monday disclosed that the party and IPFT leaders, after ‘hectic discussion’, have agreed to contest the Assembly elections jointly to ‘defeat the CPI (M) led Left Front’ government.
He also apprised BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav and party’s election in-charge for Tripura and Assam Minister, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma were present in the brain-storming meeting with the IPFT leaders.
Both the parties are expected to come up with their common minimum programme by Wednesday.

On the candidates’ list, he said state election committee has had a meeting in presence of party’s national general secretary Ram Madhav and Dr Sarma.
“Party nominees have been streamlined constituency wise and in most cases single candidates have been finalised,” Deodhar informed adding, the list will be forwarded to the party parliamentary board for taking the final call by Wednesday.
The saffron party is also hunting for an alliance formula with the National Conference of Tripura (NCT).
Polls for the 60-member State Assembly would be held on February 18 and counting on March 3 along with the other north-eastern states of Meghalaya and Nagaland where polling will be held on February 27.
