Bureau of Investigation of Economic Offences (BIEO) sleuths arrest three officials of the Assam Vegetable Growers’ Co-operative Society Limited (AVGCSL) in Guwahati on Monday.

The sleuths of Assam Police Bureau of Investigation of Economic Offences (BIEO) have arrested three officials of the Assam Vegetable Growers’ Co-operative Society Limited (AVGCSL) including its chief executive officer Rahul Amin for commission of fraud amounting to Rs several crores.

Apart from Rahul Amin, AVGCSL vice chairman Ranjan Pegu and Himani Basumatary were also arrested in connection with the case, BIEO officials said on Monday.

“There are 30 different complainants against Amin from across the state for commissioning fraud in AVGCSL. Based on these complaints, a case was registered and during investigation it was found that Amin in connivance with his accomplices collected around Rs 10 crore by assuring the people benefits under different schemes of the government with 90 percent subsidy,” a BIEO official said.

The official said that different people of Assam deposited money to Amin and his accomplices through demand draft cheques etc but did not receive anything in terms of schemes.

“It was further found the accused and his accomplices also manipulated the bylaws of the society to cheat the people thereby violating Assam Cooperative Society Act,” he said.

The official added that the BIEO is collecting all the details of the fraud and the money collected thus by the accused and his accomplices.
