Former Meghalaya chief minister Mukul Sangma on Thursday dubbed chief minister Conrad Sangma as a puppet.

Addressing the party workers at Tura in the West Garo Hills, Sangma said, “He (Conrad) has totally failed to run the state. He is a puppet and there are others who pull the strings.”

Mukul further said that Conrad had spoiled the reputation of the previous Congress government. “I am very sad to see how Conrad spoiled the reputation our government. He talks a lot but practically he can do nothing,” said Mukul.

Reacting to Conrad’s allegations that the previous Congress government had introduced some failed-flagship programmes, Mukul said, “Conrad Sangma will have to do plenty of homework before he can understand about Agar (aquilaria malaccensis) plantation in private land and it’s positive economic ramifications.  It is with our initiative that a legal provision for harvesting agar plant for its commercial exploitation is now available.”

“He (Mukul) had introduced several missions in the State which led to financial burden. He  should have studied this properly before going to implement,” Conrad had said earlier.

Alleging that chief minister Conrad has no idea how to run a government, Mukul  said had Conrad knew how to run the state, he would not have find the livelihood projects introduced by the previous government for the benefit of the common people, a burden.
