Bandhana Deori, an IRS officer, has taken over the charge of Additional Director General, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Guwahati Zonal Unit on Monday.

Deori took over charge from Deepankar Aron, an IRS officer, who was holding the charge of ADG, Guwahati Zonal Unit in addition to his charge of Additional Director General of Kolkata Zonal Unit.

DRI has been increasingly making its presence felt in the Northeast during the last few years and has had a very positive impact on the prevention of smuggling and drug trafficking, said an official press communiqué.

In an effort to expand its operations in the Northeast, the DRI, Guwahati, carved out of DRI, Kolkata, has recently been upgraded to a Zonal Unit with jurisdictional Regional and Sub-Regional Units stationed in Northeast’s major cities and towns – Itanagar, Dimapur, Shillong, Agartala, Aizawl, Imphal and Silchar.

The outcome is clearly seen in the spate of cases recently booked by various Northeast units of DRI, involving seizures of gold, narcotics, wild life, electronic items and other miscellaneous items like black pepper and betel nuts, bringing in revenue to the tune of over Rs 30 crore, it added.
