A former first class cricketer from Assam, 62-year-old Nagesh Singh represented India at the Global Enterprise Connect (GEC) Open international amateur golf tournament held in Dubai recently.
He was a promising first class cricketer in the eighties.

The former cricketer in his sixties joined the GEC Open amateur golf event in Dubai, which was participated by golfers from more than 30 countries.

The News Mill quoted the Assam golfer as saying: “The experience was great, to be a part of the international competition, especially playing in course where some of the world’s renowned players like Tiger Woods, Sergio Garcia and Phil Michelson among others have played.”

The qualifiers were held in 33 countries including about seven locations in India.
For amateur golfer Singh, this was the first major international tournament.
Singh, who reportedly played several crucial matches, represented the East Zone cricket team.
This was the sixth edition of the GEC Open, which is an international amateur golf tournament.
With engagement of over 3,700 corporate leaders and industry stakeholders, this is one of the biggest corporate golf tournaments all around the world.
The GEC Open is stated to be a unique blend of sporting excellence and networking opportunities for partners and players alike.
There were total 8 golfers who represented India in the tournament.
Singh said golf can be a great idea to promote tourism.
The report further quoted golfer Singh as saying: “It has great potential for tourism but as a sportsperson I would like to emphasise that more youngsters from our state should come and play the sport and as it is evident there is lot of scope for them to excel and create a niche for them in the world. The youngsters from other states are into the game in big way and making marks.”
