Assamese actress Aimee Barua has paid homage to the brave soldiers of the country ahead of the Armed Forces Flag Day and made an appeal to all to contribute on the occasion.

In a video uploaded on the official Twitter handle of the Tezpur-based defence PRO (Assam and Arunachal Pradesh), the popular Assamese actress in Hindi language stated: “7th December is the historic day for us as this is the Armed Forces Flag Day.”

She also said, “What is not done by our jawans for us? They even sacrifice their lives for us. You can also thank the jawans who have sacrificed their lives for the country through the Armed Forces Flag Day.”

The contributed amounts would be distributed among the families of the jawans who have devoted their lives for the security of the country, she said.

It may be mentioned that December 7 is observed as the Armed Forces Flag Day to commemorate the ‘supreme sacrifices’ made by the country’s soldiers during conflicts and war.

The Indian Armed Forces Flag Day has been observed every year on December 7 since 1949 to pay respect to the soldiers, airmen and sailors of the country.

As per media reports, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has also directed the universities across the country to observe December 7 as the Armed Forces Flag Day to commemorate the ‘supreme sacrifices’ made by the country’s soldiers.
