Guwahati: The Gauhati High Court on Friday granted bail to Sandipan Garg, cousin of Assamese singer Zubeen Garg, in the case related to the singerโs death in Singapore.
Sandipan, a suspended Assam Police officer, has been held at Baksa jail since October 2025. He is one of seven accused in the case and faces a charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
Sandipan was part of Zubeenโs Singapore trip in September 2025 and joined the yacht excursion during which the singer died in the sea.
The High Court heard Sandipanโs bail application over the past week, but the proceedings remained unresolved on Wednesday.
Following the courtโs decision to grant bail, he is expected to leave jail once the required legal procedures are completed, possibly after Durga Puja.
Amritprabha Mahanta, another accused in the Zubeen Garg death case, was granted bail on October 9. Her bail was approved with the court setting a bond of Rs 50,000 and requiring two sureties for the same amount.
Her release marked the first bail granted to any of the seven accused in the main case.
The High Court said the evidence and witness accounts available for its consideration at the bail stage did not establish an initial case implicating Mahanta in conspiracy and murder.
The court said its remarks were only for the bail hearing and would not affect the trial.
