Doomdooma: Police are reconstructing the events leading to the death of 20-year-old Himashree Boro from Assam, whose body was found beside railway tracks in Andhra Pradesh on October 7.
According to Srikakulam Superintendent of Police K.V. Maheswara Reddy, a friend contacted railway helpline 139 after receiving a distress communication from Himashree.
Railway Protection Force personnel searched the train at Srikakulam Road station but could not find her.
The SP said the complaint did not clearly mention the coach details, making the search difficult. He said the next station after Vizianagaram was Amadalavalasa, where railway personnel also tried to locate her but failed.
Police are examining whether the response could have been more effective and are reconstructing the sequence of events.
The SP said preliminary postmortem findings showed no evidence of physical or sexual assault.
Police are examining CCTV footage, her video message and passenger statements, and are trying to identify people seen in the footage.
Investigators have also spoken to passengers they could trace, who reportedly did not witness any disturbance in the compartment.
The incident has raised questions about passenger safety, the railway security response and the circumstances surrounding her disappearance from the Dibrugarh-bound Vivek Express.
Himashree was travelling from Visakhapatnam to Assam aboard the Kanyakumari-Dibrugarh Vivek Express on October 5โ6.
Her body was found beside the railway line in the Ponduru-Dusi section of Srikakulam district, near Boddepalli Pet, on October 7.
