On the occasion of World Rabies Day 2021, Just be Friendly (JBF) has launched an anti-rabies vaccination programme for dogs and cats for the first time in the Northeast.

As one of the biggest initiatives towards the eradication of the world’s deadliest disease, the programme is a collaborative approach and it will run from September 22-28 at different locations of Northeastern states simultaneously, JBF said in a statement.

Since 2009, Just Be Friendly (JBF) has been striving to combat the issue of rabies and has launched a campaign called ‘Rabies Control’.

The primary goal of this initiative is to make the society rabies-free by 2030.

This effort has been implemented by JBF in numerous areas of India’s Northeastern states, notably in Guwahati, the capital city of Assam.

Dr Sashanka Sekhar Dutta, founder of JBF said, “The ultimate goal is to control and eliminate dog mediated rabies, which is one of the few communicable diseases that can be eliminated using currently available vaccines and tools for veterinary and public health interventions.”

“As this year’s theme says, let us work together to spread facts, and not fear, I urge everyone to come forward and participate in the prevention of this deadly disease in animals and human beings,” he said.

Every year, September 28 has been observed as World Rabies Day since 2007 by several organizations including government, non-government, and social sector organizations to make the public aware of deadly rabies and its preventive measures.

This year the theme of this program is ‘Rabies: Facts, not Fear’.
