Marwari Hospitals celebrates the World Blood Donor Day every year and donors from various parts of the state come to donate blood on the occasion.
“But due to Covid19 situation, donors from the city only could come to the blood donation camp and donate blood,” Chowdhury said.
He appealed to the people to come forward to donate blood and help the people in need.
“This is a time of crisis and if we work together, we can cross the pandemic situation soon.” he further said.
The World Blood Donor Day is observed every year on June 14.
The Day was organised for the first time in 2005 by the World Health Organization jointly with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to spread awareness on the need for safe blood and blood products.
The Day is also celebrated to appreciate the contributions of the voluntary blood donors in saving lives.
World Blood Donor Day is celebrated on the birthday of Karl Landsteiner, who was an Austrian biologist, physician and is considered to be the founder of modern blood transfusion.
