Former Assam Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta on Wednesday said opposition against Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB) will continue and the AGP will never accept the Centre’s decision to support the bill.

“The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has been opposing CAB and will continue to do so until the bill is scrapped,” Mahanta said after the contentious bill was cleared by the Centre on Wednesday at the Parliament.

“It will destroy the social and ethnic fabric of Assam and the northeast,” he said.

Reacting to AGP president Atul Bora’s comments in support of CAB, Mahanta said, “Atul Bora’s comments in support of CAB are his personal comments and they don’t reflect our party’s decision.”

The former CM also appreciated All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) and Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) for their constant stand against CAB.
