Speculations are on the rise as the Assam Congress is gearing up to choose its new president.
Three names are at the forefront for the top position of Assam Congress.
Names of Lok Sabha MP from Nagaon – Pradyut Bordoloi, senior Assam Congress leader – Bhupen Kumar Borah and former State Forest Minister – Rakibul Hussain are doing the rounds for the position of Assam Congress president.
Notably, present Assam Congress president Ripun Bora tendered resignation after the party’s debacle in the Assembly elections earlier this year.

If one is to go by what Mariani MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi has to say, it will be either Pradyut Bordoloi or Bhupen Kumar Borah, who will be chosen as the next Assam Congress chief.
“Either Pradyut Bordoloi or Bhupen Borah will become the next Assam Congress president,” said MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi.
However, the Mariani MLA said former Assam Minister Rakibul Hussain’s chances of becoming the next State Congress chief cannot be ruled out.
“Rakibul Hussain has been working very hard to keep the party united in these difficult times and his dedication towards the party may get recognized,” Kurmi added.
